Ever since I was six years old, I have dreamt of becoming a veterinarian. I wanted to heal animals and make the world a kinder place. My journey began in the world of marine mammals – I trained in some of the most prestigious facilities like SeaWorld and Loro Parque, believing that was where I could make the biggest difference.
But standing behind the glass of those tanks, I realised something profound: I didn’t want to heal animals in captivity – I wanted to help them stay wild and free.
I also was advised by the head vet at the marine park that, to be a great marine animal vet, I should first get more hands-on experience in small animal clinical and surgical practise.
So, that’s what I did, I shifted paths. I spent years in small animal practice, mastering medicine and surgery, running my own clinic but my gut feeling was telling me it was time to leave, I was burned out, unfulfilled, stuck between four walls, dreaming of being out in the wild, exploring, saving wild animals, being in the ocean…So, I sold my practice to follow my heart’s true calling – marine and wildlife conservation.
From rescuing stranded dolphins and sea turtles to working with wildlife in South Africa, Costa Rica, the Maldives, Fiji, the Bahamas, and Colombia – I discovered that conservation is not just a job, it’s a way of life.
Along the way, I became plant-based to heal myself from a long list of ailments, reduce animal suffering and fight climate change, published two books (“Small Animal emergencies” and “The Year I Went Wild”), and started picking up plastic on every beach I set foot on around the globe.
Today, my mission is to help wild animals and other human beings – especially veterinarians, students, and mid-career dreamers – find their own wild purpose.
Because it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, protect the planet, and live a life that truly matters.
